Maze Contest
Description of the Maze
A maze will be established with boundaries consisting of 2 foot segments. Composition of the segments will vary as follows.
¢ Some segments (at least 6) will be vertical pieces of wood, each 2 feet long and 5 1/2 inches high. ¢ Some segments (at least 1) will consist of black tape on the floor, that marks an illegal exit. ¢ Some segments (2) will consist of a sound signal that marks an illegal exit. One of these illegal exits will be the entry point.
Contest Equipment
Each team will be allowed to use
¢ 2 motors ¢ 1 light sensor ¢ 1 sound sensor ¢ 2 ultrasonic sensors
Contest Rules
¢ The robot will be placed at the designated entry to the maze and will start when the team signals that they are ready. ¢ Time will stop when the robot finds the exit (unmarked - neither color nor sound) and completely exits ¢ Each team will be given 4 tries to make a valid run within 5 minutes. The team with the lowest time wins; teams will be ranked according to time it takes to made a successful run. ¢ Teams will be allowed to pick a sound with which to mark the sound barrier. The sound can be made only when it is clear that it is needed to avoid letting the robot cross the invalid barrier. ¢ The robot is allowed to hit the wood barriers; when a barrier is hit, I will immediately place the barrier back in its original position – the robot cannot use the extra space created. ¢ Exact configuration of maze will be shown before contest begins. The first run will be identical to the picture below (remove the vertical black barrier indicating the exit - see above). |
Invalid Runs Defined - Runs in Which
¢ The robot does not find the exit and completely exit within the 5 minutes allowed.
¢ The robot completely exits a designated boundary (marked by black tape or with sound).
¢ Sound is used to guide the robot except as described above.
