DC Motors

Basic DC Motor (motion of wire in a magnetic field causes flow of electrons

Note that in the following schematic, required motion could come from a wind turbine or a waterfall (Hoover dam, for example)

As discovered by Faraday, a moving wire in a magnetic field creates a current - this was demonstrated in class earlier.

Another Approach (interaction between fields causes motion)

Alternatively, rotational force somes from the interaction between the magnetic field around a current carrying conductor and a fixed magnetic field.

The interaction between the two fields causes motion.
