History of C++

C++ was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup, a Computer Scientist at AT & T Bell Labs. The language has been standardized by ANSI (The American National Standards Institute), BSI (The British Standards Institute), DIN (The German national standards organization), ISO (The International Standards Organization), and several other standards bodies.

The first commercial release of C++ was in 1995 and it is now the choice of many computer scientists for sophisticated applications.  It is used by more than 1.5 million professionals worldwide. C++ adds many new features to the language it was derived from, C.  Possibly its major improvement is the inclusion of the concept of classes and object-oriented programming. Beginning in 1998, it replaced Pascal as the language used by the Advanced Placement Computer Science portion of the College Board. The AP started using Java in 2003.

Stroustrup is now a professor of Computer Science at Texas A&M.
